I am the founder of Mama Imperfection and creator of the Mom Bond Challenge and the Marriage Bond Challenge. My creative poetry collection is titled Another Storm and demonstrates how love, sadness, motherhood, worry, and faith all infuse with the storminess of life. I started Mama Imperfection with the simple dream of bringing mothers together. I wanted help mamas build each other up and inspire each other grow.
I have faced multiple physical challenges including lupus, graves’ disease, celiac disease, neutropenia, as well as mental challenges like depression and severe anxiety. It was the support I received along the way that kept me going. I wanted a place to be that support and encouragement for others. I want to share what I have learned and am still learning and how it applies to being a better mother.
At the beginning of 2014, I was told that I may not be able to carry and bear a child. I tried to convince my boyfriend, Curtis, that he should not continue to date me. I knew family was important to him, and I did not want to be unable to create that dream for him. Luckily, he did not listen to me. We dated a total of three months, got engaged and were married three months after the engagement. Two and a half years later, I became pregnant with sweet Adelaide. I was induced at 38 weeks to lower my risk of a stillbirth due to my autoimmune illnesses which ultimately ended in an unplanned c-section. There were some minor post pregnancy complications and my mental challenges also seemed to flare up. My desire to have a stronger emotional connection with my baby fueled my creation of the Mom Bond Challenge. I wanted to encourage mothers everywhere, to grow closer to their children.
We’re all imperfect moms wanting to grow. Accept the challenge. Join with me as we work together to become better.
